Established in 1976, Noah's Ark is a not-for-profit organisation that is committed to the provision of high quality professional and developmental support to children with a disability and additional needs. We also provide a professional advisory service for parents and carers who wish to explore the best options available to assist their children to realise their full potential.
Our Resource Centre, located at 20 Norman Street, East Brisbane, houses an extensive collection of specialist learning and development resources, often referred to as a toy library. Our early intervention programs and educational workshops also assist families and other professionals providing child care and therapeutic services to our client group. Noah's Ark is supported by a Board of Management that provides the strategic direction and professional support required to maintain the range and quality of services that can best meet our clients current and emerging needs. Our services are delivered by a dedicated team of skilled and trained staff and invaluable volunteers.
Who are we?
Noah’s Ark specialises in the provision of specialist materials and resources that assist children of all abilities to develop skills in the following areas:
Social Interaction, language development, fine and gross motor skills, sensory development, self help skills and many more.
Although Noah’s Ark caters for all children, there is a particular focus on supporting children with disabilities and additional needs.
How does it work?
Members can come into Noah’s Ark and choose their resources, drawing on the expertise of specialist staff if they wish. Or, for people who live quite far away, we can usually develop a pack that addresses the learning and development areas we are requested to target (For example, language development), and send it out. For resources that need to be delivered, orders need to be placed in advance (no less than two weeks) so that we can have it ready to go out to you in plenty of time. We also have a specialist Advisory Team, who can provide you with information about what resources could be appropriate for the learning/development areas you are targeting, and how they can best be used.
How do I become a member?
You can come into Noah’s Ark and we can assist you with becoming a member, or you can call and we will email or post the appropriate information out to you. There is an annual membership fee, which is dependent on your needs and the amount of resources you require. The ordering process Members can come in and choose their resources and if they wish, talk to an Advisor. Or, for members who are quite far away, they can complete an order form and send it on to Noah’s Ark for processing. Noah’s Ark order forms are broken up into the many different learning and development areas the centre specialises in. All you need to do, is tick which learning and development areas you wish to target, (for example: reading) and we will put together your resources for you. Simply complete an order form and send it to us within the requested time frames and we take care of the rest, it’s that easy! For more information visit our membership page.
What are some of the benefits?
- You save time and money researching, identifying and purchasing the ‘right’ resources
- You receive a variety of resources for your money, so as children’s needs change and they meet the challenges of one resource, they will receive a new one based on their individual needs.
- You can access expert advice from Noah’s Ark Advisors, who have backgrounds in special education, occupational therapy and disability.
Playgroups
Noah’s Ark also offers early intervention playgroups for members. A playgroup offers children aged 0-3years an opportunity to play and learn new developmental skills, whilst parents can socialise and tap into the expertise of the specialist staff facilitating the group.
